Transaction Description
Use the System Controls window to configure the company name, the names of the three key flexfields, and how assets will be numbered. The oldest date placed in service is important because it controls what dates are valid for the beginning of calendars and fiscal years.
You can update the Oldest Date Placed in Service until you assign calendars to book definitions.
Automatic numbering is a numeric sequence in an alphanumeric field. If you have a mixed numbering system where some asset numbers will be all numeric and others may have alpha characters, there will be no interference with automatic numbering. Automatic numbering is always a numeric sequence and asset numbers with alpha characters are always manual.

If you are converting numerically numbered assets from a legacy system, make your starting asset number larger than the highest number in the legacy system. Using this technique the legacy system assets can keep their original numbers and new assets will start numbering at a higher sequence.

If you set this starting number too low, and then try to load legacy numbers above that number, they will be rejected by the mass additions program because Oracle now owns all numbers above the starting number assigned in System Controls.
